Eleanor Mayfield: Bio

Eleanor Mayfield has 20 years’ experience as an independent professional writer and editor specializing in health, medicine, biomedical science, and allied fields. Her experience spans a wide variety of projects, including articles, books, reports, speeches, and web content, and clients have included federal agencies and contractors, medical education companies, medical publishing companies, professional societies, and research institutes.
Eleanor studied journalism at
Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, and worked as a journalist for several years before transitioning into biomedical communications. Certified as an Editor in the Life Sciences by the
Board of Editors in the Life Sciences, she is the recipient of several
awards for writing excellence.
Ms. Mayfield is an active member of the
American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and a past president of the AMWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter. She leads workshops on launching a freelance medical writing career and on bibliographic resources for medical writers at the AMWA annual conference. She is also a member of the
Editorial Freelancers Association and the
Society for Technical Communication.
